BIO Professor Shechtman was awarded the 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of quasicrystals.  He is a Distinguished Professor, The Philip Tobias Chair, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel, an Associate of the US Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory, and Professor of Materials Science at Iowa State University. Jianwei (John) Miao is Professor of Physics & Astronomy and the California NanoSystems Institute at UCLA. He received his Ph. D. in Physics, a M. S. in computer science, and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Biomedical Engineering from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1999.
